Jack Taylor Lovatt is an artist who was born and brought up in the North West of England. He is now based in London, having moved there to study BA Hons in Photography.
Working with charcoal illustrations, photography, collage and bespoke fashion pieces, this multi-disciplinary artist’s work is auto-biographical with a focus on his own identity. The illustrations Jack creates are “fragile and graceful but at the same time celebrate strength and virility”. Using his own sexuality and experience his work explores the naivety and vulnerability of youth, love, shame, gender, and desire.
The 25 year old creates a deep personal connection to his subjects and subject matter. Jack describes his work as ‘self-portraits’ and creates an ethereal, dreamlike fantasy of his own reality. “There is a familiarity and connection I like to show through what I’m illustrating and the images I take and create. Being queer there’s a constant discussion within the works of what makes myself happy contrasting with ideas and ideals I was raised with.”
